“With excellent local suppliers and fresh produce delivered daily, you can count on us for wonderful food with superb service.”
Formerly an old mill, serving beverages through the front windows to travellers in passing carriages, The Vine Tree is a now a Freehold Inn, nestling in the tiny picturesque traditional English hamlet of Norton on the Wiltshire / Gloucestershire border on the edge of The Cotswolds. Today the Inn offers a warm inviting atmosphere with lashings of character, flagstone floors, a wealth of old beams and a large welcoming open fire in the central bar which we burn wood on all winter.
Candlelight flickers invitingly through the windows on dark days and nights from cream Church alter candles on natural unvarnished oak and antique pine wooden tables. We have a wood burning stove at one end of the snug restaurant whilst upstairs there is a secluded area which is very popular for private meetings, dinner parties or family birthday gatherings.
If you are lucky you might spot one or two ghosts, recently ‘seen’ and said to appear as a small boy dressed in polo kit and an old lady in period costume! Several of the first polo pitches in England were located in Norton, directly next to the Inn which might explain the small boy, but the old lady remains a mystery.
Children, Dogs & Horses
There’s definitely room for everyone – whether you’re a regular local, visiting for the first time, in your pram, on a bike or in a vintage car – “well-behaved” children and four footed friends are positively encouraged too – dogs are welcomed everywhere both inside and out and are immediately greeted with a bowl of water and special dog treats; there’s also a place for horses, (just not at the bar!) and we have a tie-up rail outside – with a three acre garden field and enormous car park to play with there’s also plenty of space for horse boxes.
We regularly host events and provide the unique venue for a wide variety of occasions – over the last year we have been involved with numerous events as diverse as a prestigious antiques fair, a simple drinks party, private dinners, “special” birthday parties, several wedding receptions (formal to totally relaxed), a charity fashion show, farmers’ market, discreet business seminars and meeting space, a true Irish wake(!), cocktail parties, wine tastings and wine tasting dinners, balls and naturally, given where we are situated, sporting occasions – we always relish a challenge and absolutely wouldn’t have it any other way – we love organising and in reality are up for doing anything and everything (as long as it’s legal!)
Whatever you are interested in we will make sure that you are looked after superbly – attention to detail is of paramount importance to us and we are always prepared to go that extra mile to ensure that YOU have and get what YOU want!
Call us to discuss your requirements or to ask about our catering and event services, we’re always keen to be of assistance.
